Kristin Davis, star of the tv series and film franchise, ‘Sex And The City’ and its sequel or revival ‘And Just Like That' by Michael Patrick King for HBO Max has recently released a new podcast titled: ‘Are You A Charlotte’?

Trailer: Are You A Charlotte?

Davis, known as Charlotte York-Godenblatt on the hit franchise analyses each episode for fans and includes guests of the series as her podcast guests to discuss their experiences on the show.

Why You Should Tune In:

For my fellow actors out there you definitely want to tune in. Kristin Davis deep dives into the audition process for not only herself, but other characters on the series. From regulars to guests of the show. She highlights the filming style with the unique cameras used at the time to create the dark aesthetic as well as the first seasons The Office style or Abbot Elementary style technique of breaking the fourth wall and talking to the camera. She further discusses the different lighting styles used by different directors of the episodes. Some preferred this dark style whilst others wanted something bright and bubbly. Not to give too much away but she also discusses the idiosyncratic shooting method. According to Davis, the cast would be shooting different episodes on the same day– then the scenes would be placed together of course to tell the story. I’ve not heard of anything like that. But I can imagine that it is quite challenging with being off book for multiple episodes at a time in order to shoot this way.

Where to Listen:

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, UK Radio Net, Spotify and on youtube at MSCharlotteTV

What To Take Away:

On a deeper level, Kristin Davis isn’t just asking each guest which character on the show they relate to, but analysing each episode. For instance– Season 1, Episode 2 ‘Models And Mortals’ Davis talks about a character who only dated models and would record himself being intimate with these models without their knowledge. Although, maybe not considered so problematic in 1998, it most certainly is today. I appreciate Davis’s ability to detach from her work to be transparent in how uncomfortable that episode made her feel after rewatching the series to prepare for the podcast.

SATC, S1E2

There are so many BTS details on the series and even discoveries like being the inventors of “ghosting” and the challenges of filming around NYC and gaining access to some of its’ most exclusive clubs, bars and restaurants. Back in University my best friends and I ate at The Cafeteria, also established in 1998, as often as we could simply because that was one of the regular haunts of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha.

We won’t give too much away, but this is definitely one podcast you don’t want to miss if you are a fan of the franchise.
